Connect SD Card to Mac

There are several ways to connect your SD card to Mac. Some Macs come with a built-in SD card slot but others are not. If you are having one with the card slot then your card directly inserts into it.

If you have a micro SD card then you need to put the SD card into an adapter cartridge and then insert this cartridge into the SD card slot on your Mac. A USB card reader can also be used for this purpose.

Note: If you don’t have the SD card slot on your Mac then you should use the adapter like Anker 8-in-1 card reader.

Open Disk Utility Application

You don’t need to install or download the Disk Utility as it is a built-in application in the Mac OS X operating system.

  • Go to the Applications folder and then Utilities where you can see Disk Utility.
  • You can also use Spotlight to search it in your Mac folders.

Identify SD Card

In the Disk utility left side, there is a list of several drives installed in your Mac with all the internal and external drives.  The SD card will be shown up in the External section.

The card might have the name “Untitled” or “No Name” if it is not formatted before. You can also see the storage of your SD card by clicking on it. Make sure that the storage you see on the screen is the same as the SD card.

For instance, if your card is 64GB but you see 1TB on the screen, it means that you have selected the wrong drive.

Select Erase Option

There is an “Erase” option at the top bar of the functions. Once you select this option, there will be a popup warning for you about the deletion of your SD card on Mac.
